The chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary is commonly called Sa Cappela e S'Arrosàriu. The small building was adorned at the top of the façade with a bell gable featuring a small arch containing the bell.
The oratory was once assigned to the Confraternity of the same name, which no longer exists. Now owned by the Municipality, it has been completely restored in recent years.
All that remains of the ancient building is a niche that once contained the statue of the Madonna della Candelora. The painted statue in sculpted wood, dating from the eighteenth century, is currently housed in the parish church.
The chapel was built in the year 1819 thanks to a bequest by the notary Giuseppe Antonio Virdis of Simala. It was administered by the local Confraternity of the Rosary, established by the laity, which accompanied priests in processions during the various religious festivals.
In the Liber chronicus, a kind of parish chronicle in which each rector noted the most important events and recorded their considerations, Canon Michele Farrisreported the existence in Simala in 1921 “of only a single Confraternity, that of the Holy Rosary, canonically erected in 1756, following the petition of Sisinnio Pani, the Mayor of this Municipality”.
Each confraternity has its own charter and, where still in operation, is managed by a prior, a key-holder responsible for the accounting records and a secretary who draws up documents. Members tasked with collecting offerings are known as obrieri.
